Program Details:

Continue to grow your skills with valuable teaching and learning experiences. The Wilderness Instructor Apprenticeship Program is for individuals who have completed the Wilderness Certification Program (or an equivalent in-depth training in nature skills) and are seeking to further develop their outdoor leadership and teaching skills.

The apprenticeship program provides the opportunity to assist at Alderleaf courses, gaining valuable hands-on experience with leading groups and lessons under the guidance of experienced wilderness teachers.

Components include:

  • Assisting weekly with the Alderleaf Wilderness Certification Program (Sept – June), including all field trips
  • Assisting with several weekend courses throughout the year
  • Participating in weekly Certification Program staff meetings for curriculum planning, outreach, and logistical support
  • Enhancing the learning environment at Alderleaf through clubs

Required:

  • Previous training in outdoor leadership, teaching, and nature skills (graduate of the Wilderness Certification Program or equivalent course)
  • Commitment to participate in the entire school year (including pre-program preparations and post program wrap-up)
